About Us

The Idalia Recovery Organisation of Students (iROOS) is a student-driven not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2007 through the initiative of Professor Gimme Walter and likeminded environmental science students. Inspiration came in the field, from BIOL3106: Outback Ecology, a fieldwork orientated course based at Idalia National Park (Idalia NP) in central Queensland.

The iROOS was developed with a multifaceted directive; to provide a platform for students to assist in the conservation and environmental management of Queensland's national parks and reserves, whilst simultaneously creating valuable work experience and networking opportunities to promote student employability.

We now work in conjunction with numerous independent and not-for-profit organisations on various environmental initiatives.
